Overview

The Management Aptitude Test (MAT) is a standardized national-level entrance exam conducted by the All India Management Association (AIMA) for admission to MBA and PGDM programs in India. Introduced in 1988 and approved as a national-level test by the Government of India in 2003, With a 35+ year legacy, MAT has been the trusted choice of over 30 lakh management aspirants.
MAT scores are accepted by 600+ B-Schools across India, making it one of the most widely recognized MBA entrance exams. The test evaluates candidates on language comprehension, mathematical skills, analytical ability, reasoning ability, and general awareness.
The exam is conducted four times a year – February, May, September, and December, in Paper-Based Test (PBT), Computer-Based Test (CBT), and Internet-Based Test (IBT) modes.
For MAT May 2026, the exam will be held in PBT and CBT modes, and registration will open soon on mat.aima.in. Candidates with a graduate degree in any discipline are eligible to apply.

Reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, sentence correction, and verbal reasoning.


Mathematical Skills  

Arithmetic topics such as percentages, ratios, profit and loss, time and work, number systems, and basic algebra.


Intelligence & Critical Reasoning  

Logical reasoning, analytical reasoning, arrangement problems, coding-decoding, and critical thinking questions.


Data Analysis & Sufficiency  

Data interpretation through graphs, tables, and charts along with data sufficiency questions.

Exam Registration & Eligibility Details

How to Apply for MAT 2026


Applying for MAT is a simple online process through the official AIMA website.
1. Visit the official MAT registration portal.
2. Create your account and fill in the required personal details.
3. Select your preferred test mode (Paper-Based Test or Computer-Based Test).
4. Choose up to five MBA colleges where you want your MAT scores to be sent.
5. Complete the application by paying the exam fee online.


  • Application Fee (based on recent sessions):

    1. ₹2200 – For either PBT or CBT
    2. ₹3800 – For both PBT and CBT modes

    The MAT registration fee includes sending scores to five management institutes of the candidate’s choice.


Eligibility   of MAT 2026


Candidates applying for MAT must fulfill the following conditions:
a) Completed a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university
b) Final-year undergraduate students can also apply
c) There is no age limit for appearing in the MAT exam

Unlike some other exams, MAT does not specify a minimum percentage requirement for eligibility.

MAT 2026 Cancellation Policy


Once the MAT registration is completed, the exam fee is generally non-refundable. However, candidates may be allowed to reschedule or modify their exam details within the specified correction window.

Candidates can modify certain details such as exam mode or test center for a fee (typically ₹1,100), through the official MAT correction window, subject to availability and additional charges if applicable.

1. MAT score evaluation
2. Application screening by the institutes
3. Group Discussion (GD) or Written Ability Test (WAT)

Some institutes may also consider academic performance, work experience, and extracurricular achievements during the selection process.
