The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), established in 1936 as the Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work, is one of India’s premier institutions dedicated to social sciences, public policy, and development studies. Renamed in 1944 and declared a Deemed-to-be University in 1964 under the UGC Act, TISS has played a pioneering role in shaping education and research in the social sector.
