Master of Arts (MA) in Human Resource Management & Labour Relations (HRM & LR)

The Master of Arts in Human Resources Management & Labour Relations (HRM & LR) at Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) is a flagship programme designed to develop professionally competent and socially sensitive HR leaders. Formerly known as Personnel Management and Industrial Relations, the programme combines core management education with a strong focus on human resource practices and labour relations.
The curriculum provides a comprehensive understanding of contemporary HRM along with key business functions, while also emphasising the broader social, economic, political, and ecological context of organisations. It aims to develop ethical decision-making, systems thinking, and a global perspective, enabling students to address complex organisational and societal challenges.
A key strength of the programme is its integration of theory and practice. Students engage in case discussions, simulations, presentations, and assignments, complemented by a rigorous fieldwork component that offers continuous exposure to real-world organisational settings. Additionally, students complete internships (6–8 weeks) and a dissertation, strengthening their practical and research capabilities.
